Lingotopia

Lingotopia launches on Kickstarter

Ever wanted to learn a new Language? This game might help you.

Language learning game, Lingotopia recently launched on Kickstarter and is already nearing its funding goal. The game hopes to immerse players in feelings of being lost in a different culture whilst at the same time teaching them a new language.

In Lingotopia you play a little girl shipwrecked on the shores of a strange island whose residents don’t speak your language. In order to find your way back home, you’ll have to explore this alien environment and find a way to communicate with the island’s inhabitants.

The people of the city speak a real language of your choice of which there are 20 to choose from so far. These include Basque, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

Learning one word at a time you’ll slowly decipher what is being said. There are quite a few ways to pick up the local lingo including clicking on objects in the environment, learning single words for the island’s citizens by guessing it from a list or by solving a riddle and by overhearing the residents talk about the weather. The more words you understand the more sentences you can decipher making you slowly feel more at home in this strange city.

Lingotopia’s Kickstarter closes on February 8, 2018, and a demo is available here.
