Yume Nikki remaster

Reboot of Yume Nikki coming soon

Yet more surprise information on the cult hit RPG maker classic.

In a little under a month, we’re in for a treat.  Cult hit Yume Nikki, originally released in 2004, and recently released for free on Steam, is being remastered into what appears to be a new 3D adventure.

There aren’t many details on the game yet, except for the following information from the official Yume Nikki website:

In its original form, RPG Maker darling Yume Nikki was a divisively controversial work among fans.
By contrast, Yume Nikki: Dream Diary is a collaborative show of the utmost respect for auteur Kikiyama’s seminal release.

The RPG Maker team at Kadokawa has paired up with Active Gaming Media’s development team of ardent
Yume Nikki fans to bring you this modern indie title in the form of Yume Nikki: Dream Diary.
This diverging follow-up combines influences from the original game and other recent indie juggernauts to create something wholly unique.

Yume Nikki: Dream Diary was created under supervision and with the full cooperation from the original creator, Kikiyama themselves. We hope it will help to create a whole new wave of fans, as well as push the envelope in terms of what RPG Maker games can become.

More info will be coming on the 31st of January, and we’ll be sure to update you.  What we do know is that it will feature returning characters from the original game, as well as other several other characters that Kikiyama didn’t include in the original release.

The surprise remake will be launching on the 23rd of February, priced at $19.99, (no other regional pricing info available yet) and you can add Yume Nikki: Dream Diary on Steam to your wishlist now.  If you’re keen to find out more about the history of Yume Nikki: Dream Diary and the story behind the original creator, Kikiyama, check out the Dream Diary podcast.
