Moonlighter out today on PC and consoles

An old school-looking action RPG game with rogue-lite elements. 

Moonlighter, an action RPG game with rogue-lite elements, has been released today on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 platforms by Spanish indie studio Digital Sun Games and Polish publishers at 11 bit studios. This title tells the story of Will, an adventurous shopkeeper that secretly dreams of becoming a hero.

With some nice looking old-school graphics that brings back memories of those first glorious Final Fantasy games, Moonlighter as harvested very positive reviews from media outlets, including The Indie Game Website. You can read our review of the game here.

Players take control of Will as he delves into dungeons closed down long ago in order to retrieve from them precious artifacts to bring riches to his shop and village. Beneath this storyline lays Will’s desire to explore uncharted parts of these dungeons.

Procedurally generated areas create a unique experience for each player as they defeat various enemies and bosses in order to uncover new valuables and loot to better equip Will in his journey. “It’s a perfect example of risk and reward, weighing up whether to teleport out to safety using your magic pendant or continue on in the hopes of finding some real treasures. Making it back to town by the skin of your teeth with a bag full of rare items is a truly exhilarating feeling.”, wrote James Sheppard in our review of this title.

As an RPG game, Moonligher allows for customization and precious rewards for exploration. Enchanting and crafting are key aspects of this game in order to build new and better equipment for Will to continue his dangerous journey.

But Moonligher is not just a dungeon crawler RPG, but also a sort of retail store simulator, as after coming back from an expedition, players will have to manage Will’s shop, choosing prices and which of them put out for display. This mini game provides versatility and variety in between raids. Furthermore, keeping burglars at bay is also an element to keep very much in mind.

Moonlighter is available as of today for PC and Playstation 4, while a release for Nintendo Switch will scheduled for later this year. Players can pick it up for $20 on Steam, Playstation Store and Microsoft Store.
