Tanglewood

Tanglewood released for PC and Sega systems

This award winning retro game was inspired by titles like The Lion King ad Aladdin.

British independent games studio Big Evil Corporation released today its first ever title, Tanglewood, on PC under Windows, Linux and Mac OS, as well as in phyisical form for Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive. This award winning, 16-bit puzzle platformer adventure game was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign earning a whopping £54,830.

Inspired by old-school gems like Aladdin, The Lion King and the original Sonic games, Tanglewood follows a fox-looking creature called Nymn, who is lost in the dark and dangerous wilds of the Tanglewood. Nymn is desperate to return to his family pack, and must survive being hunted by several dangerous beasts. Other creatures, however, will assist Nymn, providing colour-changing power-ups to help him on his journey home. Expect chases, puzzles, tricks and traps, demanding boss fights and many surprises along the way.

Tanglewood

Tanglewood has been awarded with several accolades like Revival Retro’s Best Indie Game and Best Retro System Game and Game Development World Championship’s Fan Favourite. Whether you choose to buy the phyical Sega cartridge or just the digital Steam version, you’ll be able to download the Mega Drive ROM file for any flash owners.

“My aim for Tanglewood was to create it in the same way as my favourite games from my childhood,” said Tanglewood’s creator, Matt Phillips. “This idea has been brewing since I was nine years old – the kid in me has long wanted to see my very own Mega Drive box on a store shelf!

“Tanglewood is the culmination of 25 years of gaming influences, as well as a love letter to every 1990s gem, and to every 2D platformer that captured my imagination. A great big thank you, too, to SEGA, for inspiring me to enter the world of video games development.”, he added.

You can pick up Tanglewood as of today on Steam for £13.95 / $17.99 USD / €14.95, and is also available for the SEGA Mega Drive, on a physical cartridge priced at £54.00.
