Super Combat Fighter kicks off Kickstarter campaign

90s inspired 2D with digitised combatants already at 15% of funding goal.

Super Combat Fighter is an over-the-top, content-packed amalgamation of every fighting game from the ‘90s – including the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series. Pick your fighter from a pool of 7 digitized characters across 10 interactive stages in local two-player, head-to-head matches. Experiment with match modifiers, enter cheat codes, uncover unlockables, and string together punishing moves to deliver perfect combos in deadly succession. If all stretch goals are reached, the fighting roster will be expanded to 10 characters. The finished game will also include an extensive single-player story mode with multiple endings.

Richard James Cook, creative director at Critical Depth Games said:

“Super Combat Fighter is me taking every fighting game I played growing up, throwing them into a bucket, violently shaking it around, and pouring out something awesome. The influence of Mortal Kombat in particular is obvious; everything changed the moment I first laid eyes on it in the arcade. To add to that traditional gameplay, we have an unbelievable amount of content just around the corner – and I’m very excited as a ‘90s kid seeing it all come to life.”

“What shines about Super Combat Fighter is that it seamlessly blends together so many recognizable ‘90s fighting game tropes,” adds JP Monge, founder of Headless Chicken Games. “Super Combat Fighter goes beyond nostalgia, though. Thanks to a team of veteran developers, we can promise our Kickstarter backers that every punch, kick, and special move seen in the trailer will be faithfully implemented in the finished game.”

Super Combat Fighter’s notable celebrity lineup includes actor and martial artist Ernie Reyes Jr. – known for his work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Surf Ninjas, The Rundown, and Uncharted: Live Action Fan Film. Also, the multi-talented actor recently directed the music video for Wiz Khalifa’s “Rolling Papers 2.”

Super Combat Fighter is on Kickstarter now, and has already raised £4,000 out of its £27,000 goal. If you wish to support the game, a minimum donation of about £8 / $10 will get you a copy of the game on release, as well as access to the closed alpha testing, expected to be held in the first quarter of next year. The game is expected to release on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch, but there’s no solid release dates as yet.
