Sci-fi space thriller Observation announced

If 2001: A Space Odyssey was a video game…

Indie developers at No Code studio, together with Devolver Digital, announced today their partnership to release Observation, a space sci-fi thriller, at some point during Spring 2019. Observation has a heavy scope on the role of an AI that witnesses everything that goes on inside a space station with its crew.

Its ingredients configure a clear homage to sci-fi masterpieces like 2001: A Space Odyssey, both book and movie, as well as Isaac Asimov’s foundational science fiction creations. Observation will be released for PC and Playstation 4 next year, but No Code launched today an announcement trailer to get us gripped.

Observation

“Observation takes players on a suspenseful journey to the outer reaches of space to uncover what exactly happened to astronaut Dr. Emma Fisher and the crew of the space station Observation. The captivating narrative unfolds through the lens of the station’s artificial intelligence S.A.M. Players assume the role of S.A.M. by operating the station’s control systems, cameras, and tools to assist Emma in discovering what is happening to the station and the vanished crew.”, reads today’s press release from Devolver Digital.

Glasgow based studio No Code introduces this way its second heavy hitter, after the success of their previous work in Stories Untold. “Let’s get real, we’re five to ten years away from the machines taking over,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “Observation is just going to give a taste of what it will be like to converge their minds with that of a CPU before it all happens suddenly for real.”
