Gerty 1

Gerty released onto Steam Early Access today

The twin stick roguelite launches with a 10% discount, free demo available.

Finnish game studio Spawn Point just released their sci-fi shooter game Gerty on Steam Early Access and Humble Store. The combination of roguelike elements, like permanent death and procedurally-generated levels, permanent character unlockables and top-down real-time action will throw players into a challenging survival mission. And the source of the threat is an unknown extraterrestrial power, which the player must find and stop.

Gerty is a top-down rogue-lite twin-stick shooter with a fully destructible environment. Carve your own path through replayable procedurally generated levels and create tactically advantageous situations to eliminate the alien threat in intense, tough but fair, action-packed gameplay. Mine Juice crystals to upgrade your gear, discover alien structures, and eliminate the source of the alien threat in singleplayer or local co-op mode.

The game takes place on a planet Gerty I, where mining operations are halted by an alien attack. The player, armed to the teeth, must fight back the alien invasion pouring out from the depths of the mines and find the root of the problem. The aliens can be engaged in several ways. Players can go fast along tunnel paths but may risk themselves to a sudden surprise just around the corner. Players can also carve or blast their way through the rock in the fully destructible environment, which can be tactically utilized against alien enemies.

In early access release, Gerty supports up to four players local co-op, which opens up possibilities from squad tactics to a full-blown, full-screen mayhem. At launch, Gerty presents four distinct character options each with their own playstyle and unique skills. Players are able to further customize their gameplay with perks and purchasable gear of which can be obtained by first gathering Juice from crystal pockets scattered in the mines. As the player advances deeper, more powerful weapons and defenses are needed to avoid permadeath.

“Based on the feedback of many different people, I am happy that we have managed to create a solid and engaging core experience for our early access release” says the project lead Risto Ihalainen. “During early access, we plan to add more awesome content to the game.”

Gerty is available on Steam now, with a 10% launch discount running until the 10th of December.
