Dead Cells review

First, Dead Cells nabbed an impressive victory in the Best Action Game category. It isn’t hard to see why, as the rogue-like Metroidvania title features an addictive blend of combat and puzzle-solving that’s hard to put down.

Return of the Obra Dinn

Next, Return of the Obra Dinn took home the gold for Best Art Direction. A simple glance above tells the entire tale here, especially considering its unique look was unlike anything else in the category. A truly engaging adventure, it also happens to adopt a truly retro aesthetic that only serves to enhance its gameplay.

The Messenger

The Messenger won the distinction of Best Debut Indie Game, as its unique retro aesthetic apparently captivated audiences all over the world who tuned in to vote for The Game Awards 2018 winners.

Overcooked! 2 and all its zany cooking antics was given the Best Family Game award, and for good reason. Despite being the progenitor of some truly frustrating arguments between family members,  it necessitates cooperation and teamwork.

Into the Breach bagged the Best Strategy Game award. This turn-based strategy adventure, with all its futuristic charms, is an exciting option for fans of FTL. Its excellent writing makes it a no-brainer that it should take home a win from this category.

Finally, Celeste won two awards – first, the prestigious Games For Change award, and then the Indie Game of the Year award. Celeste is a colorful, challenging, and absolutely deserving game that was nominated for several categories, and luckily ended up bagging two that it was absolutely perfect for.
