Sundered: Eldritch Edition out on Xbox One and Switch

A beautifully hand-drawn Metroidvania experience.

Montreal based indie studio Thunder Lotus Games has released today their latest update for their Lovecraftian metroidvania game Sundered: Eldritch Edition for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Existing players of the base game will receive this update for free.

Our review of the Nintendo Switch version of Sundered: Eldritch Edition gave the game a solid 8/10, highlighting “an intriguing world to explore and challenging bosses oozing with nightmarish Lovecraftian style”. This new version of Sundered adds features like a local co-op mode as well as new areas and quest chains to follow.

Thunder Lotus Games has also published a developer update post mentioning the full patch notes for this Eldritch Edition, like new progression options and endgame content, 5 new perks and tier 4 perks as well as the usual “minor bug fixes”.

Sundered is a roguelite metroidvania experience with pretty impressive hand-drawn environments and general art from the creators of Jotun. In this game players will face dark powers and enemies, with the option to reject or embrace it to gain powerful abilities through their journeys in this grim world.

But as our review said, Sundered: Eldritch Edition is “lacking a proper narrative to provide dramatic impetus beyond the innate desire to explore”, as our reviewer Ed Nightingale wrote. The universe of Sundered is inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft’s dark realities, monsters and overall themes.

Fight hordes of enemies, explore procedurally generated environments and fight giant bosses through this gorgeous looking game that stands out from other Metroidvanias for its art style and gameplay. Owners of Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles can get it today for USD $19.99.
