Rami Ismail’s Meditations serves up a short free game daily

Try out a new, free game every day with Meditations.

Vlambeer’s Rami Ismail has greeted indie gaming fans in the new year with Meditations, a new free indie game launcher that features a new, small game every day of the year.

Each game should take around five minutes to play, though its creators took around six hours to craft it. Every new title will only be available for 24 hours, synced to GMT, so you may have to log in at different times to see the day’s game, based on where you are in the world. According to Ismail, the projects will include everything from “curious small puzzle games and challenging little platformers to personal games about life and loss and happiness and love and death and everything”.

The launcher is a free download available for both PC and Mac users, and it will automatically download a new game every day at midnight GMT for you to test out. If you happen to miss one, unfortunately there won’t be any way to go back and try it out until the following year, according to Ismail’s FAQ. You’ll have to be extra-vigilant about seeing each game with this in mind.

Meditations will download the required files needed for each month, and will occasionally download files up to 500MB containing the game files needed to run each program, as the official FAQ states.

The current game on offer for Wednesday, January 2 is a simple game where you press any key to slowly grow a small circle into a larger one. If you hold down the key too long, the circle will slowly change color to a deep red, and then shrink again. You have to wait enough time between holding the key down and starting up again to eventually fill the outline of a larger circle.

“As a naturally outgoing introverted person, I long to fill up my happiness by being near friends, but I often quickly hit a wall after a small amount of time. It’s hard to find the balance between making myself happy without draining all of my extra energy. This is always exasperated by the holiday season, as I tend to spend a lot of time around those I love over the New Year’s holiday,” reads the current game’s description.

If you’re interested in trying out the bite-sized games, you can download the launcher via the official Meditations website
