Dark Devotion

Sidescrolling action RPG Dark Devotion coming soon

Delve through an ancient Templar dungeon to prove your Dark Devotion.

French indie studio Hibernian Workshop and publishers at The Arcade Crew have announced today the upcoming release of their sidescrolling action role-playing game Dark Devotion. Scheduled for early 2019, Dark Devotion is centered around the tale of a Templar warrior in a quest to prove her devotion to the order by exploring a highly dangerous and mysterious ancient temple.

This new game mixes influences from the universes of authors like H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, as well as aesthetics from gothic architecture and overall feel. Metroidvania, RPG and exploration elements are also blended in this experience composed by labyrinthic dungeons filled with mortal traps, dangerous creatures and challenging battles.

Combat seems to be one of the features of the game that Hibernian Workshop has put a lot of effort on, described as weighty and calculated (Dark Souls alert!), encouraging players to choose their equipment wisely and punishing for wrong loadouts and using the wrong tool to face each enemy. And with such a religious backdrop imbued into the story, it’s no surprise that features like prayers, blessings and curses take a big role into the combat system and how to find the weakness of each enemy.

Dark Devotion’s pixel art brings a very interesting look to the horror-themed atmosphere that it depicts, granting a fresh look to an experience filled with darkness and the unexpected. Hibernian Workshop has stated that this pixel art world has been thoroughly created with high attention to detail and careful design.

Dark Devotion will be available for PC through Steam, Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 sometime during this early 2019.
