Super Meat Boy to get limited special edition physical release

Physical copies are being made for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS Vita by Limited Run

One of the downsides to everything being digital these days is that a lot of indie games never see a physical release. The feeling of players actually holding the cases and discs in their hand is something that many miss. Well, thanks to Limited Run Games, fans of Super Meat Boy will soon be able to get their hands, physically, on a special edition copy of the game for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS Vita. There isn’t a release date for all the platforms but it was announced this week that the Nintendo Switch version is ready to go and pre-orders will begin shipping on February 8th from just one vendor.

Limited Run Games is a publisher based in North Carolina who make and distribute physical copies of games. It is primarily aimed at collectors and die-hard fans who want more from a game aside from its digital version. It was founded in 2015 and has seen been taking a wide variety of popular games, mainly indie, and making limited edition releases out of them. Once the run for a particular game is sold out, then it is sold out for good. All releases are numbered and stamped making them highly sought after items.

The game itself was released in 2010 on PC and Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Arcade, on PS4 and PS Vita in 2015 and eventually on Nintendo Switch in January 2018. During that time it has gained itself a huge fan base with over 24k positive reviews on Steam alone. In Super Meat Boy, you play as the titular character as you try to navigate through some treacherous platform puzzles to rescue your girlfriend, Bandage Girl. You will need to leap from wall to wall to avoid obstacles such as buzz saws, crumbling rocks and pools of sharp instruments to reach the end of each level and get closer to your beloved.

Fans of the game are currently looking forward to the next instalment of the series, Super Meat Boy Forever, which is set to release later this year for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
