The Hong Kong Massacre

Top-down shooter The Hong Kong Massacre out on PC

Inspired by local action movies, this action packed game looks seriously good.

Swedish indie studio Vreski announced today the release for PC and Playstation 4 of their new fast-paced, top-down shooter The Hong Kong Massacre. With heavy inspiration in Hong Kong action movies and local culture, this title carries a story about revenge and triad violence with gorgeous noir visuals and the best elements from games like Hotline Miami.

Its noir aesthetics and its hard-boiled story brings back memories from great titles like Max Payne. The Hong Kong Massacre tells the story of a former detective in a cinematic killing spree looking for revenge for the death of his job’s partner.

The top-down perspective chosen by Vreski didn’t prevent them from building a beautiful looking 3D world traversed by our protagonist with amazing stunts, bullet dodging and impressive timing. A blood-pumping upbeat soundtrack joins the equation to result in a pretty interesting artistic combination.

The ability to slow down time provides not only great screenshots, but also a way of stopping for a second to think how to keep moving without getting killed, mixing acrobatic stunts and an arsenal of weapons to fit anyone’s style. The Hong Kong Massacre features one-shot kills, so any contact with enemy projectiles will mean game over.

Each level has a set of challenges that will allow players to unlock new guns and equipment in order to get an edge over their enemies and granting some more depth and replayability.

The Hong Kong Massacre is out today for PC through Steam at a price of USD $19.99 and a special 10% off final price of USD $17.99 during launch week. Its Playstation 4 version was released
