CI Games creates a new indie publisher

United Label will focus on graphical and gameplay quality.

United Label

Polish game publisher firm CI Games has announced the creation of a new label dedicated to indie games called United Label. This new project will be oriented towards working with indie developers and apparently is already working with four games: Roki, Eldest Souls, Tails of Iron and Horae.

CI Games is known for publishing big AAA titles such as the Sniper Ghost Warrior franchise and Lords of the Fallen. “We want to support titles that are qualitative first and foremost in their graphical and gameplay approach, but also those that can push the boundaries of their genre”, told CI’s CEO Marek Tyiminski to Games Industry.

United Labels has informed that its business model will be to provide funding to indie game developers in exchange for a revenue percentage of their sales. But Tyminski also told Gamasutra that “there is no one-size-fits-all answer”. “We offer, on a case-by-case basis, flexible funding models depending on individual developers’ needs”, he added.

So, apparently, United Label will be offering personalized contracts to every indie developer that works with them from now on, allowing for different solutions to each studio and their specific needs and capabilities. ABout the process through which they’ll decide who to work with, Tyminski added this in dialogue with Games Industry:

“We want to maximise the ratio of titles that become really profitable and at the same time keep the portfolio rather narrow.”

The indie scene in Poland has been growing non-stop for the last couple of years, a fact that we’ve addressed before. You can read more about it in this feature article.

With indie studios like Polygon Treehouse, Fallen Flag Studios, Odd Bug Studios and Lunaris Siris already on board, United Label seems to have waited until they were able to show some ongoing projects before announcing its existence. Now we’ll have to wait and see the results.
