Guardians of Ember to relaunch as free-to-play

The popular Hack n’ Slash MMORPG will now be published by Gameforge

Today it was announced that Guardians of Ember, the popular hack n’ slash MMORPG by Taiwanese developers Runewalker, will be relaunched early this year as a free-to-play title. It will be published by Gameforge. The German publisher is known for publishing other free-to-play multiplayer games such as Aion and SoulWalker. And today, if you are quick, you can sign up for the closed beta of the new version of the game.

The game was originally released in 2016 so it is only fitting that the new version has had a lot of time and effort spent on it to make a whole host of improvements, adjustments and upgrades. With Gameforge on board, the developers are hoping to reach the success that their previous game Runes of Magic did.

Sadly, for the team at Runewalker, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing when it comes to Guardians of Ember. In 2018, it was removed from Steam along with a number of other games that were all under the publisher Insel Games. It was announced by Valve that Insel Games was attempting to manipulate the reviews of their games by creating and using fake Steam accounts to boost positive review counts of all their games. As this is against Steam’s terms and conditions, all the games were taken down.

Runewalker are hopeful that the new partnership with Gameforge will help raise the popularity of the game. Tony Tang, VP of Business Development at Runewalker, certainly seems hopeful for the future:

“We couldn’t have teamed up with a publisher better suited than Gameforge to take the reigns of Guardians of Ember. We look forward to seeing the game grow in popularity by reaching new players, and surprise returning players with all of the improvements that we have made and will continue to make.”
