Europa Universalis IV expansion Mandate of Heaven free for a week

If you own the game but not the expansion, you can try it now!

Do you own Europa Universalis IV by Paradox Interactive? Have you tried the Mandate of Heaven expansion? Well, if you haven’t then you are in luck. Today Paradox Interactive announced, on their forums, that they will be letting players without the expansion try it for free for a week. The free trial begins today and will continue to be available until February 4th when it will deactivate unless you then purchase it.

The free trial is the first in Paradox’s Monthly Expansion Highlight. Users on the games’ forum are guessing that maybe this move is due to poorer sales of newer expansions but the developer says that their reason behind this is “We want to give people the opportunity to try out some content they might not own before buying it!”. A nice idea especially as some of the expansions in the past cost quite a bit of money (as far as expansions go). At least you can try before you buy!

Europa Universalis IV itself is a grand strategy empire building game. Where it sets itself apart from other, more well-known, games in the same genre is that the map is based on the Earth. So you want to play as the British Empire? Well, you start in Britain. Do you want to conquer Germany? You know where it is. It is a lot more focussed on national identities and ideals. The Mandate of Heaven expansion specifically takes a look at East Asia. Primarily the Chinese Ming Dynasty and Japanese Shogunate kingdoms.

If you haven’t got the game already then you can either head to Steam or just can buy it directly through Paradox Interactive’s website. To access the free trial, make sure that you are logged into your account in the Paradox Launcher and make sure Mandate of Heaven is selected in the DLC menu.
