Worbital 2

Worbital launches on Steam today

The real-time artillery game is available now

Today, Finnish developers Team Jolly Roger announced that their real-time artillery game, Worbital, is now live on PC and Mac via Steam. It is also going to be released on console at some point this year but there is currently no date confirmed.

In Worbital, you get to take control of a whole planet, kit it out with whatever weaponry you can and then attempt to blast your opponent’s planets out of their orbit. The winner is the last planet standing. It has been made to primarily be a multiplayer game for up to four players online or local, but there are single player skirmish and campaign modes too.

There are lots of features of the game which hope to make it very enjoyable and something a little different from games which are already out there. You are affected by gravity and space anomalies. Some things are better if they are shot at an angle and using a gravitational path rather than straight forward. You can also create black holes to give your opponents something tricky to negotiate. The weaponry available to you is both defensive as well as offensive. The items available include railguns, lasers, magnets, shields, and boosters.

This isn’t the first time Team Jolly Roger have ventured into outer space. Their other hit game Interplanetary is also a planet killing artillery game but is turn-based rather than real-time like Worbital. It is also less like a cartoon and more like a simulation rather than just an out and out strategy. Interplanetary is only available on PC.

Worbital is available via Steam and costs $19.99/€19.99. As stated earlier on, there is going to be a console release but all we know is that it will be at some point this year. Make sure you check back with us to find out when that will be.
