Ape Out’s escape plan delayed to end of February

This frenetic example of “rhythm violence” has been pushed back a few weeks.

Devolver Digital’s colorful, chest-thumping adventure Ape Out has been pushed back from a release date next Thursday to Feb. 28.

The delay should allow the devs to get it running at 60fps, which is a great reason to delay such a bonkers-looking game, but it is unfortunate we’ll have to wait a little longer to play it.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ape Out, it’s a heavily-stylized game where you unleash your “primal instincts” to overpower your enemies and make a dash for freedom. You’ll be darting back and forth between enemies in a rhythmic dance, building up momentum and using others as weapons and shields throughout each procedurally-generated level.

There’s accompanying jazz to go with the over-the-top violence displayed throughout the game, as you navigate through traps, obstacles, and other areas meant to keep you caged up. The ape inside wants free, though, so staying in one place simply isn’t an option. Just check out the trailer above. You’ll get an idea for what it’s all about soon enough.

Ape Out is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch on Feb. 28, 2019. Just don’t expect anything like smooth jazz from it. Looks like you’re going to get a regular cacophony of sounds instead – and plenty of smushed human bits all of your screen too, probably.
