Astroneer Review – Looting An Old Backpack After Respawn

Astroneer blasts off with official release

Astroneer takes to the skies now that it’s out of Early Access.

Looking for a spacey new adventure to spend time with? System Era Softworks’ Astroneer is available now, finally having left Early Access.

Astroneer is a sandbox survival game taking place out in space. There’s a lot more to it than just running around collecting space samples, though. You’ll be shaping entire planets in this title, including digging tunnels, creating paths and wholly new areas, and then harvesting resources. All of this takes place in a narrative campaign with six themed planets, plenty of customization options, and other cool gadgets you can create and enjoy during a session.

You can do all this with friends, too, with asynchronous multiplayer and persistent servers. Want to build bases and tear through a planet, but need to wait on a friend who’s coming on to play later? You can do that, thanks to this multiplayer mode. It’s all here, and it’s delightful.

Miri Teixeira reviewed Astroneer for The Indie Game Website, awarding it a 7/10:

“In short, Astroneer is a calming, vibrant, genuinely enjoyable experience until you start to set goals for yourself. At this point it becomes a bit of a chore and strays into frustrating grind territory that has no real guarantee of tangible results – and suddenly the buggy menu system, tangled controls, and lack of resources culminate in an inevitable fit of rage. Luckily, if you need a bit of post-anger stress relief, we have just the game for you… have you played Astroneer yet?”

Time to blast off, we surmise.
