Survival sci-fi RPG The Riftbreaker announced for PC & Consoles

Who said mech suits were just for AAA games?

The Riftbreaker, a top-down sci-fi survival game from EXOR Studios, grabbed our attention pretty quickly with its very cinematic trailer, but is the games industry a little oversaturated with adventures based around mech suits (or ‘Mecha-Suits’ as this game refers to them)? We think this game looks like it might have enough originality to side-step this issue.

In The Riftbreaker, players are cast as captain Ashley S. Nowak. As you might expect, Captain Nowak is a ”Riftbreaker”, an ”elite scientist/commando inside a powerful Mecha-Suit”. The setting is Galatea 37, a planet at the very far end of the Milky Way Galaxy, where players must build a base that will begin the process of colonisation from Earth. Your Mecha-Suit is capable of jumping through rifts to travel great distances, which comes in very handy when you need to gather supplies and extract resources.

EXOR Studios have been working on the game since 2017, using an engine that they themselves created, the ‘Schmetterling’ engine. The engine was originally built to house the studio’s previous titles, X-Morph: Defense and Zombie Driver, and the studio are confident that the engine provides all the important stuff, such as an uncapped frame rate and customisable controls.

The Riftbreaker

Hack n’ slash your way through enemies, gather resources, research new technologies and build your base to provide a portal back to Earth – these are you objectives. You may be in a mecha-suit, but surviving on this planet still won’t be easy.

The Riftbreaker is currently slated for release in 2020 and will arrive on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. To keep track of any updates, keep an eye on the game’s Steam page.
