Terrifying horror The Beast Inside now has a public demo

A whole lot of nope right here. The Beast Inside

Illusion Ray Studios recently released a demo on Steam for their terrifying new horror game, The Beast Inside. If you’re in the mood to never sleep again then the photorealistic thriller might be right up your street. The teaser trailer released last year gained massive amounts of attention when the game launched on Kickstarter smashing all its funding goals.

The demo runs you through the first couple of opening chapters in which CIA cryptanalyst Adam stumbles upon a hidden diary in the attic of the remote cabin he’s staying in. Fleeing to the secluded retreat to work on deciphering Cold War military code, things soon take a turn for the worse. Long forgotten memories of a hundred-year-old murder-mystery consume his idea of a relaxing country retreat and turn it into a living nightmare.

Light plays a huge role in this tense experience – mixing diminished sight with startling jump scares reminiscent of Outlast. The old house you explore in the demo creaks and whines with a plethora of inaudible noises making you never feel like you’re safe: It’s a very claustrophobic atmosphere. And then the ‘uninvented guest’ shows up, and let’s just say things go downhill from there. Searching a spooky, old woodland cabin for a shadowy figure with only a match to light your way is the very definition of extremely unsettling.

The semi-open world teases the disorientating nature of darkness as you can explore some of the cabins surrounding woodland. Much like Outlast with its camcorder, running out of lamp light is going to be an absolute nightmare. To add to that, it appears there won’t be a great deal of defensive weaponry at your disposal, so run, hide, try not to cry will most likely be the answer to most of the entities you come up against.

The Beast Inside is set to launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox sometime this year. In the meantime, you can check out the demo on the Steam page. Just remember to bring a spare change of underwear.
