Rewrite the rules with pixelated puzzler Baba is You

Baba is You is released today.

Baba is You, the pixelated puzzler that sees you resetting the rules, arrives on PC, Mac, Linux and Nintendo Switch today. It faced a few delays at the end of last year, but now Baba is up and raring to go.

The game sees players dealing with puzzles in the form of written blocks. These blocks form the laws that rule the small world, but when moved around by Baba, those rules change in drastic and interesting ways. By shifting the letter filled blocks you can defy the laws of physics, turn yourself into an inanimate object and even change your own goal posts. It’s amazing what you can do with just a switch of a few letters.

The puzzler has been developed entirely by Arvi Teikari and originally emerged out of Nordic Game Jam 2017, which it won. Teikari liked the game enough to continue working on it, fleshing it out into the 200-level game it is today. In an interview with Wireframe Teikari explains, ”Baba’s concept was very much one of those happy accidents where several ideas just happened to line up at a fortunate time”. While Baba is You may seem haphazard at first sight, like Teikari describes, the elements come together perfectly into something truly unique and playful.

Baba is You is out now on Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and Linux. You can find out more about the game on Steam.
