Moonlighter’s new milestone treads Between Dimensions

New content for its 500,000 players!

Moonlighter review PC Steam

Today is a great day for Spanish indie studio Digital Sun as Moonlighter, their rogue-like RPG game released back in May 2018, has reached the impressive milestone of 500,000 units sold around the globe less than a year after its launch. This reminds me of something: single player games aren’t dead, so stop saying that!

Every time an indie game accomplishes something like this it brings me a warm wave of joy, reinforcing my belief that the “Indieapocalypse” was just a way of reflecting the market’s natural behaviour, but not a doomsday of the whole industry. Moonlighter is a great game and let me tell you that I’m not a fan of rogue-likes.

With this milestone Digital Sun has also announced that they’ll be working on a mobile version for Moonlighter, although you shouldn’t expect it to be a full port but something the likes of an adaptation. How’s that going to work is something we should wait for before making a judgement, but it’s great to see successful indies going mobile. A pretty good example of this is what Stardew Valley accomplished with its mobile port, released earlier this year.

Moonlighter

Together with this announcement we’ve also learned that Digital Sun is planning to launch Between Dimensions, the first Moonlighter paid downloadable content as an expansion to the game. It’s great to see that the great amount of fans of Moonlighter will be getting brand new content to expand their experiences. And that’s something we’ve been able to see continuously from indies: taking care of the player base with brand new content and expansions to continue to engage instead of moving on to a new title.

If you ask me, that’s pretty nice. If I was a fan of Moonlighter I’d love to see the devs work to provide more hours of uncharted fun.

Moonlighter is available for PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, while a mobile adaptation is on its way. You can read our review here.
