Unbound is like Ori and the Blind Forest but with portals

And the demo is free on itch.

Unbound: Worlds Apart is an atmospheric 2D puzzle-platformer that immediately catches the eye, with its cute red-hooded protagonist and intriguing changeable environment. Created by a two-person Romanian team, Alien Pixel Studios, the game is currently looking for some extra funds through its Kickstarter campaign.

Players are cast as Soli, a small hooded figure, not unlike the protagonists of similar puzzle platformers Ori and the Blind Forest and Hollow Knight. But unlike those steely protagonists, Soli can magically conjure portals, and when these portals are summoned, most rules get re-written. As you can see from the trailer, a portal can mean anything from things disappearing in the landscape, gravity going akimbo or like a light-turned on, a sudden revelation of what was previously hidden in the dark.

So far the game has already achieved over 50% of its funding target, which means that the team have been able to reveal their first stretch goal; getting the game ported onto Nintendo Switch. Solving these platforming puzzles would no doubt be fantastic on the handheld, but we’ll have to wait a little while longer for that considering its PC port is so far slated for May 2020.
