Jupiter Hell

Jupiter Hell is like a blend of Doom and Diablo

And turn-based demon hunting!

There’s one thing that Bethesda has done very well recently and no one can argue about: Doom. Their reimagined version of the all-time classic first-person shooter was a smash hit and brought back the franchise with all the glamour it deserved.

If you’re not old like me and just discovered this demon-filled franchise for the first time in 2016, then a game like Jupiter Hell might have gone under the radar a couple of years ago. Poland based indie studio ChaosForge has been working around Doom for a while now, and Jupiter Hell is their latest project, which mixes Doom with turn-based strategy and roguelike mechanics.

ChaosForge is pretty well known for reimagining Doom-like concepts and pouring them into awesome stuff, like what they did with Doom, the Roguelike. With Jupiter Hell, they are doubling down on their devotion for this masterpiece of gaming’s history by offering an isometric turn-based roguelike experience set in a research facility infested by demons, located in one of Jupiter’s moons.

But the devs at ChaosForge have included classic Diablo elements to their blend, offering enemy looting and skill trees to reflect our progression through the game. We could say that this studio has some sort of devotion to demon-filled games, and that’s nothing short of great.

The protagonist of this story is a Marine, as any Doom-inspired game should include, and it really looks like a very fun little game. Jupiter Hell is in development right now and it’s scheduled to hit Steam’s Early Access in August 2019.

One of the things that caught my attention is the classic 90’s sci-fi aesthetics chosen by ChaosForge to dress their game, with procedurally generated levels and endless demons to slay, loot to collect and depths to explore.

So if Diablo and Doom are two games you’ve enjoyed (duh), then make sure you check out Jupiter Hell when it launched or through its playable demo.
