Music Killer takes Murder on the Dancefloor very literally

Killer Beat.

So, we have games where you smash things to a beat (like Beat Saber) and we have games where you just have to bloody well keep up with the beat (like Guitar Hero) but do we have a game where you can shoot to the beat? Do we need one? Well apparently we do, because Music Killer has us doing exactly that.

In the true spirit of Halloween, Music Killer has us running around shooting at disembodied skulls with a musical accompaniment of our choosing. If that’s not the spirit of Halloween then you’re not doing spooky right. The game describes itself as a “music adapting first-person shooter game where the mood of the level, enemy speed and gameplay experience depend on the music you choose.” So, depending on how much you like to shoot into the abyss, the speed and rhythm of your shooting is entirely up to you.

Players are the disembodied gun that has to deal with the mess, as waves of enemies come to meet them according to the length of the music, shooting enemies within the constraints of the songs rhythm. The developers at AbstractArt are hoping it checks the addictive gameplay box, but from images, it just looks absolutely bonkers.

Music Killer

It’s almost reminiscent of the clip-art presentations I used to put together in primary school, and yet, the absolute chaos of it lends itself perfectly to the similarly chaotic concept. There might be a reason why no one has done an music adapting first person shooter before. Hey, only one way to find out.

If Music Killer looks like your sort of thing, the game is available for both single player and online co-op. It releases on Steam tomorrow, just in time for Halloween.
