Diablo-like Book Of Demons Launches On iPad This Week

Not immortal

You might not have heard of Book of Demons, but it’s definitely worth having a look at. It’s an action RPG in the same vein as Diablo, which means lots of looting, level-ups, and different classes to play around with. There’s also an incredibly deep dungeon to raid for new items, and plenty of monsters to slay. However, there are two big things that make Book of Demons stand apart from any of the other ARPG games.

For starters, and the is the obvious one, the whole thing looks like a pop-up book. Every enemy seems like something you’d find in a fantasy pop-up you’d read your younger siblings when they were two or three, and it’s utterly charming. It’s a wonderful aesthetic on its own, but there’s also a SUPERHOT mode, which changes the gameplay so that nothing moves unless you do, and it also makes all of the enemies orange and the backgrounds white. As a huge fan of SUPERHOT, this is a great touch.

The other main difference is the gameplay itself. Diablo requires a fair bit of clicking all over the place, but Book of Demons is a bit simpler. It’s not in a bad way, there’s plenty of tactical choices to make as you descend into hell, but you can attack by simply clicking and holding the mouse button down. You collect items by sweeping your mouse over them too, which makes gold collections so easy. Plus, there are some really nice ideas when it comes to levelling up, and the mild roguelike nature of the game as well.

Book of Demons is great fun on PC, but it could well shine anew on iPad. Plus, Thing Trunk, the people behind Book of Demons, have just announced Book of Aliens, and Book of Demons: HELLCARD, so it could be a great time to become familiar with their work.
