Last Oasis Could Be The Next Rust

Anyway, here’s Wonderwall

Survival MMO is an odd genre. It kind of encompasses games like Ark: Survival Evolved and Rust, but there are few hard lines or strict rules in this definition. It’s basically a genre all about the shared journey of survival, but survival that wants to be successful and fulfilling, not merely scraping by. Perhaps stranger is that in real life, this is an intensely stressful experience, but in games, you don’t have to worry as much about failing, which is where the appeal comes from.

Last Oasis definitely has the look of a survival game; it’s got that slightly brown look that helps mark out gritty games from more cutesy ones. It also has wild mechanical contraptions in the videos that you build from scratch to help ferry you around the desolate world. It’s also got gigantic horrifying monsters, and some incredibly cool constructs called Walkers to help you charge into bigger battles. Of course, there are melee battles to take part in too, all of which seem to be very fast-paced and have a good weight to them, at least as far as looks are concerned.

It’s all quite promising, and the style of the game is undeniable, just watch one of the trailers that show how the Walkers move, and you’re likely to be hooked. Then there’s the bit where the giant sandworm erupts from the floor, sure it’s a trope at this point, but you can’t deny the effect of it. There’s no firm release date as it stands, but we should be hearing something soon, as it’s simply set as Q1 2020, which we’re nearly halfway through.
