Fights In Tight Spaces Is John Wick With Cards

I know Kung-Fu

Now look, I love me a good card game. Hell, I love me a mediocre card game, to be honest. I also love me (last time, I promise) a good martial arts game. There are few things as satisfying as kicking someone across a room, or executing a perfectly timed parry as someone falls onto your fist. The combination of these two things seems a little odd, but you know what, I’m very much here for it, and I think you probably will be too.

Fights in Tight Spaces is both a very good name and also an incredibly exciting prospect. When you take a traditional fight and break it down into steps, it allows you to pull off a constant stream of movie-level combat sequences. It’s one of the things that made John Wick Hex so cool, just the ability to feel as though you can predict what is about to happen and react accordingly. There’s also a very satisfying level of blood spray on a lot of the attacks, which is all the better for the start contrast in the visual style of Fights in Tight Spaces.

There’s also the matter of the people behind the game. You’ve got both Ground Shatter, the people who made RICO, a fun game where you kick doors in and shoot people, and Mode 7, the people behind Frozen Synapse. Very different games for sure, but who doesn’t love a weird combination here and there? After all, it’s what keeps things interesting. No word on exactly when the game will launch, but it’s meant to be this year, so that’s nice.
