Drums Of War Is Heavy Metal Donkey Konga

Not quite my tempo

There’s something a little primal about beating a drum. You hit it; it makes a sound; it sounds good; you hit it again. You just repeat that over and over and hopefully, you get good enough to stay on tempo and maybe even become the backbone for some beautiful music. Of course, sometimes you beat a drum in a VR game as a way of moving forwards as a massive orc. Maybe that’s less primal, but it’s definitely a lot of fun.

Drums of War is exactly that, it takes the wonderfully satisfying feeling of hitting a drum, turns you into a gigantic orc, and lets you loose on a world that is not ready for the metal you bring with you. In fact, I don’t think anybody is ready for the metal that you herald, but hey, that can only be a good thing. It actually came out back in October, but it’s just recently had an update called the “Stay home and healthy” update.

This adds in a better tutorial and some quality of life improvements, but it’s also just a good time to highlight an interesting VR game. There are not many games, if any, that let you hit drums to move forwards, dodge, and fire giant cannons. Nor are there any that allow you to smash your drumsticks together to summon a massive fireball. It’s unique, it’s a surprisingly good workout, and it’s a lot of fun, so you should give it a look if you’re after something a bit different too, and a lot more metal than most VR games. \m/
