Why You Should Play Fort Triumph

Victory castle

Fort Triumph is what happens when you start casting spells in X-Com. Well, it would be, if that were possible. It’s a legitimately great game, and one exited Early Access on Steam last month. It takes the same style of gameplay that makes everyone’s favourite game of “that was a 95% chance to hit how did you miss the snake alien” and makes it all magical. It’s still hard-as-nails, but the new aesthetic and some of the systems in it allow for a different kind of game entirely.

The gameplay is split between the turn-based battles, in which you can use amazing kicks to yet enemies into each other, or trees onto enemies, or enemies into trees, and an overworld to explore. You can even manage and upgrade your fort to allow you to upgrade your units and become more powerful. It’s a really satisfying experience at every single level, and it’s a real shame it’s not getting more attention.

Yes, I know we didn’t review it on its emergence from the Early Access cacoon, but, well, sorry. It’s rare that I feel we missed a game completely on the site, but this is one of those instances, so I’m rectifying it now by telling you that you should give Fort Triumph a look. It’s wonderfully charming, it’s funny, and it’s a huge amount of fun. If you’re into strategy games at all, then you’ll love it, and if you’re looking for an X-Com game with a more colourful aesthetic, then this is very much it. Now, off you go, go lead your troops to victory.
