Scorn Looks Gross And We Can’t Look Away

What even is that?

Do you ever watch something and then spend the next half an hour shuddering and wanting a shower? I’m not talking about comedy you enjoyed ten-years ago when you thought “edgy” was a legitimate personality trait though, I’m talking about the Scorn trailer. It’s full of that wonderful Giger-inspired mildly-horny deeply-uncomfortable imagery that makes the Alien series so deeply horrifying. It’s legitimately kind of uncomfortable to watch, and I can still feel things squirming in my arms as I type this all out.

Despite my discomfort, I’m pretty sure that means it’s doing a damn good job for a teaser trailer, and I’m definitely incredibly interested to see what the game ends up being. Currently, the game is described as being “an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and sombre tapestry”. It seems to be all about being out of place, so the unknown is sure to become the familiar, even if it never feels that way. It’s a cool concept, and the apparent non-linear nature of it could be something a bit different for horror fans.

If the gameplay sounds unusual, why not just watch it? It turns out that the Ebb Software YouTube channel has a Gameplay Trailer on it. It’s from 2017, so things have probably changed a lot since then, but it’s nice to see that the constantly unsettling visage hasn’t slipped in the slightest. I don’t know if I’m actually looking forward to playing it, but I also feel like I’m going to be compelled to do so to get it out of my head.
