Light Trail Rush Is F-Zero As A Brawler

Tripping the lights, fantastic

Light Trail Rush is an absolutely fascinating concept. It’s an 8-player racing game that isn’t really about racing, but about scoring points. It’s also asymmetrical, with the player in the lead playing the role of the Tracer. The way they drive defines the road behind them, which is the playing field for anybody not in first place. Those behind have to try and get to first place, but they also have to try and knock off anyone else trying to pull into pole position.

That means every match is frenetic and chaotic, with things changing constantly, and without a person designing the course by hand, you’re left to try and keep up with whatever mood whoever is the Tracer is in. It sounds like an incredibly cool concept, but it’s not just that that makes Light Trail Rush sound like so much fun. You see, each map is also procedurally generated, so you’ll never play in the same map first, and with another person designing the racing track as they go, it’s likely that no other racing game has ever had this many race tracks.

It’s been in beta for a while now, but should be releasing into Early Access at some point soonish. The visuals already look excellent though, and I don’t think there’s another game out there with a core concept that’s quite as interesting. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together, as it could well be the next big multiplayer hit.
