The Best Upcoming Games June

Fight the power

Games are a good way of escaping from reality, and that’s something we all need to do when we’re not doing our best to support important causes. June could be a good month for games, as is often the case, and there are some excellent choices, far more than the five listed here.

It’s also possible that more games appear as we head towards new potential announcements and shows. So, here are some of the games you’ve got to look forward to in June.

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is a game that we’ve already reviewed, but the Switch version gives players a new chance to meet some of the incredible characters who help make the game memorable. It’s a great game, though one that doesn’t always hit the mark with it’s overarching themes. Still though, the chance to play it in handheld mode is sure to be a good enough reason to jump into it.

The Outer Worlds is coming to Nintendo Switch on June 5th, but is already out on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Across The Grooves

Across the Grooves is a beautiful story telling the tale of Alice, who has found herself in possession of a vinyl that is far more than it seems. You get to travel throughout Europe, exploring her past, making decisions, and changing your past. I got to play it at EGX last year and really enjoyed it, and I think the full game is going to be excellent too. There’s also some excellent music, and the way the game weaves it into the gameplay is stunning.

You can let the soundwaves carry you away on June 17th when Across the Grooves launches on Steam.

Waking

Waking is described as combining third-person action and guided meditation. You walk through a world inside of a dying mind, and have to fight through oblivion and conjure memories of those you’ve loved. It’s the kind of concept that will wither be stunning, truly transcendent, or it’ll be poorly done and crass. I don’t know which of these it will be, but I like the ideas, and I love the visual style.

You can reflect on things when Waking releases on Steam on June 18th.

SpongeBob Squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated

This is my pick for feelgood game of the month. I don’t actually have any nostalgia for the original game, but I sure am here for SpongeBob and his annoying airheaded positivity. You also get to play through a classic good vs evil story, not deeper meanings, just the good guys winning, as it’s meant to be. This one is very much one that’s been asked for for a while, so it’s sure to be big when it releases.

You can become a sentient sponge when SpongeBob Squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated release on June 23rd on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.

No Straight Roads

No Straight Roads is a story about the power of rock and roll in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s about rebellion, about knowing what’s right, and about taking down the corrupt who believe they are beyond the reach of what is right. It’s not about following rules, but being moral, and just, and doing good. It’s something that will hopefully be less poignant by the time it releases at the end of the month.

You can rock out to No Straight Roads when it releases on PS4 and PC on June 30th. \m/
