Why You Should Play Treachery In Beatdown City

I’m hella big and about to punch a helicopter

Before I write about anything else, please watch the trailer and listen to the music, it’s god damn incredible. Have you done that? Good. Right then, onto the actual article. I found out about Treachery in Beatdown City via The Optional Podcast, which is currently the only podcast I make time to listen to as I’m no longer in the gym five times a week.

Treachery in Beatdown City looks like it’ll be a Streets of Rage ’em up, which isn’t the official name for the genre, but you all know exactly what I mean. While it shares some similarities like the streets, and also the rage, it’s actually a very different game, and it’s far more memorable because of it. The story and setting are great, but the gameplay is absolutely phenomenal.

Each battle takes places in a way that feels a bit like what would happen if you took the FF7 ATB system and through in some decent combo mechanics. You’ve got to choose attacks in sequence to string together combos, but also make sure you’ve got enough FP to be able to defend yourself. All while you’re doing this you’ll be able to move around and find better positions to fight from. It’s just a really interesting combat system, and the game is worth playing for that and that alone. Thankfully though, Treachery in Beatdown City is much more than that, but rather than telling you all about it, I’m just going to tell you to go and play it instead.
