Hellpoint Is Dark Souls In Space And Out Soon

There’s an event on that horizon

Hellpoint seems to have had a bit of a scrub up since I last wrote about it. It’s still the soulslike game set in space that has you facing off against cosmic horrors, but it all looks a little cleaner now. There’s a slew of new screenshots on the Steam page, and they’ve fully announced the co-op too, which is both local and online. This is a pretty big deal because while some savour the punishment offered to solo players, others like a bit of help. The local co-op is a particularly interesting idea, because I can’t think of another soulslike that has it.

There’s also the interesting setting too. While a game like Mortal Shell is happy to join Dark Souls in the grim fantasy world, Hellpoint is going for space-bound horror. This means there’ll be things that our brains just can’t comprehend, a strange mix of science and occultism, and it’s all set aboard a space station that has fallen. I’m not sure if that’s literally or figurative, but hey, it’s cool either way.

It’s a great setting for a horror game, but this’ll be the first time we’ve seen something in a more ARPG style, and I’m quite excited to get stuck into it when it launches on July 30th on basically every platform. The Switch release will be of great interest to a lot of people, I’m just curious as to how effective using a single Joy-Con to play will be.
