Alpaca Ball: Allstars Is Rocket League With Alpacas

Super acrobatic rocket powered alpacas

I’ve got no idea what the difference between an alpaca and a llama is. Well, I know that the latter was one of the main reasons that Emperor’s New Groove was such an excellent film, but other than that, I think they both have bowl haircuts and goofy teeth. Maybe they come from different regions of France or something?

Anyway, Alpaca Ball: Allstars has you and up to seven other players trying to play football while controlling alpacas. It’s got a top-down camera, but it’s got a big Rocket League energy to it, and it looks chaotic, messy, and a lot of fun. This is the latest in the wonderful “physics-based” genre of games that often results in tricky controls, ridiculous gameplay, and just the biggest of belly laughs for everyone involved in every single match. Sure, you might not be fighting using crabs, or throwing each other off of skyscrapers, but that wonderfully erratic energy is still at its core, and it just makes for a great experience.

There’s no firm release date yet, but it’s coming out on both Steam and Nintendo Switch. The local multiplayer is sure to be where most of the action happens, but there’s a career mode to where you lead an alpaca team to their eventual glory. I don’t know how moving the story is going to be, but I imagine it’ll be a real underalpaca story about a group of misfits who bonded together thanks to the power of friendship. That might be an anime synopsis, but hey, it still sounds like fun.
