The Best Upcoming Games August
Who’s Takeshi, and why are we in their castle?
August is here, everyone is far too warm, the UK has no AC, and everything is still kind of terrible. Look, I want to be optimistic here, but it’s too warm for warm fuzzy feelings. Instead, let’s just take a look at some of the excellent games we have to look forward to this month. It’s a pretty solid month all in all, and the best part is that one of these games is free (terms and conditions apply).
Hellbound
Throwback games are a combination of the power of nostalgia, and the improvements in game design since whatever it is they’re referencing. Hellbound wears its inspirations on its sleeve, face, guns, and enemies, and it looks like an excellent FPS game as well. It looks like exactly the kind of face-shredding metal music masterpiece that could easily see itself atop people’s Game Of The Year lists.
You can bring demons to their doom when Hellbound releases on August 4th.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
Look, Fall Guys is going to be a monumental success because it’s the first new battle royale game in a long time that puts fun first. It’s just pure joy in every aspect of its design from the gameplay to strangely appetising aesthetic. Perhaps the best thing about Fall Guys is that it’s going to be on PS Plus when it releases. The last time a big indie game did this it was Rocket League, and I don’t need to tell you just how big that is now.
You can embrace the colourful chaos when Fall Guys launches on August 4th.
Kill It With Fire
Spiders should be considered friends. They’re useful, they keep to themselves, and some of them even dance. It’s a real shame that some people are so vehemently anti-spider, but there’s not much you can do about it. The good news is that those people can now vent a little bit of that fear into a game all about using guns, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers against our eight-legged friends.
You can embrace your arachnophobia when Kill It With Fire launches on August 13th.
Surgeon Simulator 2
Being a brain surgeon is hard. It’s impressive, of course, but requires a level of dexterity and knowledge than many of us simply don’t have. Thankfully, you don’t need anything at all to play Surgeon Simulator 2, just yourself, a platform to play it on, and maybe even some friends to help you accidentally cut up your patients. It’s sure to be a riot, and is definitely worth a look if you like chaotic multiplayer games.
You too can mess things up horrifically when Surgeon Simulator 2 releases on August 27th.
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind remains one of the strangest game announcements that we can think of. Despite the success of the show, it’s not one that automatically screams “video game” at you. Well, we’re getting a puzzle-adventure game based on it anyway, and it looks like a lot of fun. Featuring lots of different abilities, some light time-control, and lots of hats, this could be a surprise hit.
You and your gang can roam the streets and solve some nefarious plots when Peaky Blinders: Mastermind release on August 20th.
