The Cobra Kai Game Looks Surprisingly Fun

The Karate Kid is a classic tale of a kid being bullied by the psychopathic teenagers of the 80s and fighting back by kicking them in the face. It’s been carried on in a YouTube series, I think? Anyway, we’re getting a game set in the universe now called Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues. Just a quick note, the title isn’t my favourite thing, I’m not keen on long titles because I can only have so many words in my article titles, and long titles like this really mess things up. Anyway…

The game is a 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up with two-player co-op and an array of different characters to play as. Each character has their own unlockable abilities and skills, and you’ll need to play through both sides of the story if you want to unlock the true ending. It’s a pretty cool idea, and the combat looks fun in the trailer. It does come mere months after the rather spectacular Streets of Rage 4, but it’s quite possible that this simply appeals to a different brand of nostalgia.

GameMill Entertainment, the company behind the game, is responsible for an array of tie-in games. This could well be the next big success in the beat ’em up genre, it certainly looks like a lot of fun, but we’ll know for sure when it releases on Xbox One and PS4 on October 27th, and then again when it releases on Switch on November 24th. The lack of PC release is a little odd to me, but I’m sure there are good reasons for it.
