Monster Train Just Keeps Getting Better

The more I review games the more I’m aware of the fact that games that score well don’t always stick with you. You’re not going to go back to some games, it doesn’t matter how good they are, sometimes you just can’t find time for them in your life, and that’s okay. With our free time being such a precious commodity, it’s important to manage it well, and if you’re not gelling with a game then you shouldn’t play it, no matter how well it scores. Likewise, if a game scored poorly but you love it, then put your time into that.

Monster Train is a game that I scored very well, and it’s one that did decently across the board in terms of reviews. You can put stock in review scores or not, that’s up to you, but for me, the thing that marks a game out as truly exceptional is how much I keep coming back to it. Monster Train hasn’t been uninstalled, it’s not left my regular rotation of games. It’s just there, always watching, always waiting, always ready to kick me in the face if I get too cocky.

I’d go back to it even if it hadn’t been updated, but Monster Train is also doing the whole free update thing. We’re not talking small additions here either. On July 16th they added the Wild Mutations update, which allows you to completely change how each run goes with an array of different mutators. Tomorrow, on September 3rd, we’re getting the Friends and Foes update. This adds in new playable heroes and enemies as well. It was a great game to begin with, and all of this free stuff just makes it better and better. Please, go and play it.
