Gunfire Reborn Keeps Getting Better And Better

Gunfire Reborn launched into Early Access back in May. Now, Early Access games are always meant to improve and get new content, but it’s not always the case. Gunfire Reborn is the latest in a long line of roguelikes that not only honours the Early Access thing, but makes a damn good argument for it being the norm.

The latest update added in a third playable character. As is often the case, the characters here have wildly different abilities that mean you’ll be trying to create different builds depending on which one you choose. The starting character, a cat, is excellent if you want to deal out massive amounts of elemental damage. They also have a special ability that freezes enemies in places, as well as poison smoke bombs. The second character, a dog, can dual wield weapons and has a penchant for explosions. The latest character, a bird, is a melee expert. They can leap across the room to kick enemies or just swipe at groups of them.

There has also been an impressive amount of general quality of life tweaks and UI improvements too. It’s rapidly becoming one of my favourite games to jump into for a quick burst when I’ve got a spare thirty minutes or so. It helps that the game felt polished when it released initially, but every update adds in something that makes you go “oh yeah, this makes perfect sense.” Plus, the new weapons are excellent and it’s got co-op, and I do love co-op.
