You Should Play Killing Floor 2

Left 4 Dead-likes, yes, that’s a genre, aren’t all that uncommon thanks to the success of their namesake. It’s not all that surprising given the undying (Oh you bet your haunted house I meant that pun) appeal of the game. The prospect of facing down hordes of brain-hungry enemies is one that will probably always be popular, but as the original games get that much older, newer games and the iterations they introduce become more tantalising.

I’ve talked before about Vermintide 2, and while that probably remains my favourite of the genre, Killing Floor 2 comes ever-so-close to that spot. It’s filled the kind of pure absurdity and brain-off gameplay that makes these kinds of horde modes so satisfying, but the class system and the upgrades you can unlock as you play through each match make it a lot deeper and a lot more enjoyable.

For example, I quite like hitting things in the face with melee weapons. Sure, I understand that shooting things is a lot safer, but I just can’t resist the chance to successfully pull off a parry before lopping off a zombie’s head with a sawblade shooting gun that doubles as a melee weapon. In fact, as it turns out, that’s so specifically my thing that it’s the class I’ve ended up sticking with instead of any of the plentiful ranged or support classes. It’s just an awful lot of fun, and if you play it with a group of friends you’ll almost definitely end up hooked and diving deep into some caves to wipe out the monsters. Also, it’s on sale for the next two days, so if you’re going to get it you should get a move on.
