Martha Is Dead Looks Horrific

Horror games are scary. That’s pretty much the point, of course, but not every horror game manages to actually scare people instead of just throwing jump scares at the player. Set in Tuscany in 1944, you take control of the twin of a woman who had been found dead. It’s a stressful situation, and you’ll need to deal with the trauma of that loss as the truth slowly comes out about the grisly event.

It sounds as though Martha Is Dead is going to be an incredibly heavy experience, the kind of thing that’ll leave you tired and drained afterwards. If it manages to mix the emotions that it’s aiming for (grief, mostly) with the horror elements it’s showing off, then it could be one of the best horror games in existence. That’s not an easy thing to manage though, so it’ll be intriguing to see how well the team behind it can do to pull it off. Things that stray so close into the darker human emotions can be handled badly, but that doesn’t mean it should be avoided.

As a first-person psychological thriller, it’ll be the kind of thing that’ll aim to creep inside your head and stay there. It’s very much not the kind of game I’m ever going to play, but I can appreciate the fact that people are going to probably enjoy it, so here I am, looking at screenshots and watching videos I will try and delete from my brain later on. What can I say except you’re welcome.
