You Should Play Hunt: Showdown

PvP games are great fun, and that’s something I don’t think I’d have written this time last year. Maybe it’s just the constant crushing isolation of 2020, but I find myself craving competition and camaraderie more than usual this year, and it’s led to me playing more online games as a result. There’s just something kind of wonderful about sharing a victory with some friends or lamenting a loss together. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been playing very little else this year, especially recently.

Well, the latest addition to my little rotation is Hunt: Showdown. I’m not surprised to find myself enjoying the game having reviewed it earlier this year, but I am constantly impressed with just how well it does what it does. There’s not really anything else like it, and the combination of hunting horrific monsters while trying to survive against the other people coming after you too. It creates a level of tension that is far beyond either of those things on their own, and it means you have to think in a completely different way to escape each match in one piece.

It is, quite simply, exquisite in its execution, and very much the kind of game you have to play to understand fully. It’s something I definitely recommend picking up if you’re looking for something different, and it won’t disappoint you if you’re after a challenge either. Also, it happens to be on sale for the next couple of hours, so you should probably pick it up ASAP.
