What If We Played 30XX?

Mega Man games are some of the hardest and most iconic games in existence. They’re just satisfying to play, and while the mechanics might not be the flashiest, the gameplay is hard to beat. However, a good one is very hard to make, because there are a lot of things you need to balance to get it right. I’m not a game dev though, so I’m just assuming it’s tough because there are a lot of games like Mega Man, but most of them don’t play all that well.

Well, one of the best in this very specific niche is 20XX, which is a roguelike take on the genre that is absolutely incredible. What’s more exciting is that there’s actually a sequel in the works called 30XX. While we’ve currently got no ideas about when it’ll release (the steam page says 30XX, probably), it’s still a game to keep an eye on. If it manages to be just as good as the first game then it’s going to be a must-play for fans of this style of action-platformer, and if it manages to be better than it could well be one of the best Mega Man games of all time.

One of my favourite things about 20XX, aside from the fact that it’s a roguelike, is that it has co-op. That means you can play through the devilishly difficult levels together with a friend, and they do say that a problem shared is a problem halved, but the fun is doubled. It’s something like that, I’m not sure if the maths actually checks out, but my point is that 30XX looks great and I want to play it.
