Archvale Is An Amazing Mix Of Genres

It’s been a truly stellar year for indie gaming, quite possibly one of the best we’ve ever had. There’s been highlight after highlight, and if you’ve been checking all of them out, you’ve likely not had time to do much else. Well, we’ve got another one for you to add to your list of must-plays called Archvale. It’s a fusion of RPG and bullet hell, which isn’t something we’d ever expect to work, but it does with aplomb.

Set in a world where an evil king once ruled, you play as the only hero capable of possibly stopping him for good. To do so, you have to journey across the land, find the pieces of the arch to Archvale, and then face off in the ultimate showdown between evil and, well, whatever your alignment is. You can journey around the world in any order you like, as long as you’re strong enough to endure the challenges that lay in wait in each of the game’s regions.

As you go, you’ll face off against incredible bosses, collect absurd weapons, and find a build that works for you. There are classes in Archvale, but you can change everything up as you go to best suit your situation. It’s a joy to play from start to finish. While it’s certainly not an easy game, the rewards for learning how to master the ability to sidestep the plethora of bullets that will constantly barrage you is worth the pure fun offered by Archvale. Also, there’s a frog chef.
