Wild West city-builder Depraved gets new trailer
First trailer and Steam listing for Wild West survival/city builder Depraved.
From Hostiles to Red Dead Redemption 2 to Westworld, 2018 is shaping up to be a bumper year for fans of the American Wild West. Fortunately for aficionados of Westerns and gaming, the indie game scene is offering up its own contribution to the genre: survival/city builder Depraved.
The setting is perfect for a city builder, since like the settlers and pioneers of old, you have a lot of different factors to consider if you want to make a success of your new life on the frontier, from weather to bandits to just finding enough to eat. In Depraved, you will have to consider all of these and a whole lot more besides.
At first glance, Depraved gives off vibes of Age of Empires 3, but this is a survival/simulator game rather than an RTS. You start off with a carriage full of resources to get your settlement started, and from there you are tasked with growing a town with a good supply of food and materials. Your town will grow or shrink in population according to how happy your residents are, and you will have to carefully consider their needs. If you don’t keep your citizens fed and watered, they will get restive and start committing crimes, or just march off into the desert and start their own town.
There’s a wide variety of problems that can afflict your settlement, for instance if you don’t keep your residents warm by having a good supply of clothing, they might get flu in the Winter, and you must also ensure that they are defended against the bears and wolves that roam the woods, to name just a couple of dangers. The world you play in is procedurally generated, so no two games are the same.
Depraved is being made by Germany-based studio Evil Bite. If you want to keep up with Depraved’s development, you can follow its progress on Steam. Release is currently planned for later this year. In the meantime, if you’re a fan of American history then be sure to check out Nantucket.
