Stone Lantern Games launches Evergate Kickstarter

Cute puzzle platformer hits over 50% funded in less than two days

Currently, in the Projects We Love section of Kickstarter is a cute 2D puzzle platformer called Evergate. It is being developed by Boston-based studio Stone Lantern Games. The crowdfunding campaign only launched two days ago and, at the time of writing this, is already close to being 60% funded.

The game follows a little child-like spirit named Ki as she goes through a journey to the afterlife. As you journey, you must learn how to use a secret ability called the Soulflame. This ability is one one of the main game mechanics in the game. In conjunction with different crystals placed in strategic point throughout the game, the Soulflame allows you to perform different types of manoeuvres to solve puzzles. For example, firing at a swap crystal allows you to swap places with the crystal or firing at a boost crystal sends a little shockwave along your Soulflame’s trajectory to give you shove forwards.

The game consists of over 100 different puzzles but there is no one way to solve these puzzles. While a puzzle may look pretty straightforward to solve, there is more than one way to do it. You could either take the simple approach and just work out how to get from A to B or you can make things harder for yourself by finding more complicated solutions. They have also made it so that you can reset each puzzle as often as you need without having to worry about lives or chances.

Evergate has already been in development for over three years and has already gained quite a lot of attention. In 2018, the game won the Audience Choice award at BostonFIG and was selected for the PAX West showcase. This year it has been nominated in two categories at The Bit Awards being held on February 1st in New York.
