Mario Royale

Play Mario Royale while you still can

Can you reach the level’s end against 100 other Marios?

Mario Royale

An indie developer from Southern United States has created a battle royale version of classic Mario Bros., blowing up the whole internet and probably getting himself in trouble with Nintendo all at the same time. It’s obviously called Mario Royale.

In this version of Super Mario Bros. we compete against around 75 other instances of Mario to see who survives and gets first to the end of the level. There’s a good ending and a bad ending. Reaching a top 3 position will grant you the happy version, while any other result will drop you to a sea of lava. Yup, that’s Mario Royale (or just Mario) for you.

It’s obviously a joke, but it’s a hilarious one. Sadly, Nintendo really dislikes these sorts of things and will most likely request this solo developer to put away his toys, unless he wants to get sued for millions. It’s not like Nintendo hasn’t ever done that in the past.

So if you’re interested in trying out this weird, wacky and super frustrating version of Mario, then I highly recommend you do before it’s taken down by force, and it will sooner rather than later. Also, beware of the usual bad practices of gamers in these situations, like offensive nicknames and language.

But Nintendo should at least note down the sheer amount of players interested in something like this: “I’ve been modding games since I was a kid, but I think for this one, I would guess it’s gotten well over two or three hundred thousand players over the course of the past few days”, said Mario Royale’s creator in an interview with Vice.

He also assured that he’s not making any money with this project and that he creates these mods for fun and to showcase in his YouTube channel. You can read the full interview here.

So jump in and get ready for a world of pain as you race against countless other Marios to the little flag and castle at the end of the level. You’ll probably last 30 seconds though.
