QT is the game equivalent of the “open for a surprise” meme

Wholesomeness is just down a creepy corridor.

The beginning of this trailer is wonderfully misleading. As you walk through a creepy, dark corridor, you are struck by the usual horror game sounds. But wait, something has just crashed through the window behind you. What does the note say? It tells you to look behind you. Oooooh. Oh. It’s just a nice yellow man waving.

QT is full of these lovely little surprises that focus on wholesomeness over the usual kill or be killed nature of video games. Developer Happy Snake has previously made titles Morning Post and Library, two similarly endearing games all about vibrant, roughly sketched characters.

QT is the third in this series and according to the developer it is, “partly inspired by everyone on the internet thinking I was making cute games that turned out to be horror games, and partly by my fascination with cool 3D environments (like in first person horror games).” But ultimately, he wanted to make a game that wouldn’t “spook anyone too much.”

QT is currently free to download on itch.io, but Happy Snake also has a Kickstarter page running to fund a future collection of his games. This collection will include QT and two new games; Museum (which involves exploring a Museum) and KOUEN (which is an open-world game in which you’re a park ranger).
